Shotcut: Does anybody use that?

So I’m trying to edit a video in Shotcut and my head is about to explode. Somehow, I have made the sound go completely away. I play the video and the peak meters dance around, but no sound will come out. Reboot, reinstall the program, et cetera.

Any ideas? Should I deep-six Shotcut and use something else?

I need something user friendly that isn’t expensive. Thoughts?

I use shotcut and have never had issues. Is the missing  audio embedded in the video or is it sepa rate?

It won’t return any audio to me at all from any project or video file.

Reinstalling it will make no difference as likely the reinstall/uninstall does not remove the previous settings file.

I also use Shotcut and have no problems with it.

Is the video track separated from the Audio track or is is audio video on the same track?

What if Rusty uses Revo Uninstaller?

I doubt it...Shotcut is open source, so not sure if it’s popular enough for Revo to know where it’s settings folders are stored in AppData.

I’ve never had Shotcut work oddly unless it was just something I’d done. I’m guessing somewhere he just hit a button that muted sound output or something. It’s also possible Windows somehow turned down the volume specifi cally for Shotcut?

@Rusty - I’ll figure out where the settings folders for Shotcut are and tell you how to clear them, but check this. (I am guessing you are running Windows 10). Open Shotcut, start playing a video in it, then r ight-click on the volume icon at the bottom right near the clock, and open the Volume Mixer - make sure the volume for Shotcut is turned up there.

After that, before we worry about wiping the saved settings - as I’d mentioned before, i s the video track separated from the Audio track or is is audio video on the same track?

Sorry for the delay replying. I’d be very happy if there was some way to brute force set everything back to stock. I had just set an audio gain/volume effect to an audio track and I lost all sound output. I’ll go look for the volume thingy you mentioned.

To clarify, sound WAS working OK in Shotcut before right?

OK, try this:

1. Uninstall Shotcut

2. Go to your File Explorer

3. Turn on ‘Hidd en Items ’ under the ‘View’ tab if it’s not already on

4. Browse to C:/Users/*insert your Windows user profile name here*/AppData/Local

5. Delete the ‘MeltyTech’ folder.

6. Restart your PC. Feel free to turn ‘Hidden Items’ back off in the File Explorer’s ‘ View’ tab if you’d like if you didn’t have it on before.

7. Reinstall Shotcut and see if sound works again.

Kinja'd!!!

There must have been a keyboard shortcut that muted the volume here. That was the problem. (Deleting the MeltyTech did not seem to zero out anything. But it doesn’t matter.)

Thanks for stepping up to help me with this.

As long as you’ve got it sorted! Shotcut is decent software, it’s not steered me wrong yet! :)

There’s more features in there than you think...at least that was my experience when I started to get to know it better.

I have another video editor called CyberLink PowerDirector. It’s top rated and inexpensive and it does a lot of stuff. Consumer-oriented. But I would rather be challenged by a more esoteric, more capable application. I enjoy using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign, and I see Shotcut as being much more on that level than some consumer-oriented thing.

Again, thank you for stepping up/out for me on this.

So are you sequestered with spouse and kiddos?

Yeah, I used to use an ‘acquired’ copy of Sony Vegas Pro 8 back in WinXP/early Win7 days ....probably using it to NOWHERE near it’s capacity, but it was what I had! I don’t do the ‘acquired’ softwhere thing anymore and open-source software often seems really well done, that’s how I found Shotcut! :)

No worries for the help!

Naw, no wife...or kids...or even girlfriend at the moment, sadly. My brother and I (both substitute teachers) are both still living at home as we save up to each buy a house (early there, but this COVID thing might be screwing that up for hell knows how long with schools closed and no income other than EI or Canada’s soon-to-come Emergency Response Benefit)....don’t want to get an apartment because you pay rent which you can’t get any of back. Mom’s a single mom, so likes the company, especially right now with all the crazy going on in the world...

There is also the cat, lol. I hope you and yours are doing OK in all this stuff!

Dating at a social distance. Right.

I hear our stable genius of a president is going to fortify our northern border. Love him or hate him, nobody _on earth_ will forget him.

Yeah, Canada is pretty pissed about that....not quite sure why he thinks people are going to leave Canada into the has-MORE -cases-of-coron avirus-than-we-do United States and station the military along the previously longest undefended border between two very good neighbouring countries......

He sure likes to piss people off/screw things up...

Anything he can do to make himself look like the tough guy. Chaos for its own sake. Seems like 90% of the random, irresponsible, offensive junk he utters never takes place.
